ACC examining whether Shakib to continue as goodwill ambassador

Sports Desk:

The Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday said that the commission was  examining whether it would continue the agreement with Bangladesh Test and Twenty20 captain Shakib Al Hasan as a goodwill ambassador or not.

The commission decided to examine the matter after several allegations of unethical activities raised by media against the Bangladesh cricket poster boy, ACC secretary Mahbub Hossain told reporters at a news briefing at his office.

Responding to a question, Mahbub said that nothing happened immediately after coming any complaint.

‘Give us some time. The Anti-Corruption Commission is looking into the matter,’ he added.

‘You [journalists] know that Shakib Al Hasan is the world’s best all-rounder and the captain of the national cricket team. The contract signed with him as brand ambassador of ACC in 2018 was that he would work on making documentaries for ACC without remuneration. And a documentary was made with him only once in 2018 when ACC’s 106 complaint hotline was launched. After that, we didn’t do any more documentaries or any activities [with him],’ he said.

Recently, allegations have been made against Shakib for signing agreement with gambling establishments, manipulating the stock markets, and forging his father’s name.
